The end of the month was a whirlwind with our Backing Horses with The Frame masterclass and Thanksgiving, but now that we’ve had a moment to catch our breath, we want to rewind to the week before and celebrate an exceptional showing at the Young Horse Show Regional Qualifier and Finals at Morven Park.
We brought sixteen young horses (yes, 16!), and once again this format proved exactly what we believe young horses deserve at the start of their careers: a thoughtfully run, well-judged environment that sets clear expectations without unnecessary pressure. It’s a program we trust, and one we’re proud to bring our youngsters to year after year.
Here are a few highlights from an exceptional week:
At the qualifier, our homebred Frame In The Sky with Diamonds (Potter du Manaou AA x Grey Top) placed 5th in the Two-Year-Old In-Hand, while another homebred, Frame Brulee (Frame Nantucket S x Birdstone xx), earned 3rd in the Yearling In-Hand. Martin and Uranium BC, owned by Blue Chip Farm, took the win in the 5-Year-Old Jumping, and Martin and Margo McAlister’s Gunsmoke topped the 4 & 5-Year-Old Dressage Test of Choice.
The Finals brought even more success. Frame Brulee proved her consistency, finishing 3rd once again in the Yearling In-Hand. Gunsmoke, owned by Margo McAlister, won the 4-Year-Old In-Hand. Joe and LSS Notorious, owned by Ingvil Ramberg, won the 3-Year-Old Flat Under Saddle, with Joe and EFE’s Destiny’s Child—who is currently offered for sale—placing 2nd. Joe finished 2nd in the 4-Year-Old Jumping with Valko Can De Deia (owned by Jocelyn Arel), and 3rd in the same class with CrackaRoo Z (owned by LuAnne Novello). He also won the 5-Year-Old Jumping with Nyela SR, owned by Keli Barnes. Martin and Gunsmoke brought home wins in both the 4-Year-Old Flat Under Saddle and the 4-Year-Old Dressage Test of Choice. Martin also earned a 2nd place with Carol Thomas’s Rhode Island in the 4 & 5-Year-Old Dressage Test of Choice, and wrapped up the week by winning the 5-Year-Old Flat Under Saddle with Uranium BC before placing 3rd in the 5-Year-Old Jumping.
