Our Approach

From Conception to Foaling:

The Frame takes care of every detail when it comes to breeding management. From scheduling veterinary appointments and overseeing insemination to organizing transportation to our partners, we ensure that your broodmare receives the best possible care at every stage.
Fifteen days before foaling, she will return to one of our partners, where she will foal under the close watch of reproductive specialists. After a safe and successful foaling, your mare and her new foal return to The Frame at around two weeks old, where the real work begins.

Early Development:

The first weeks of a foal’s life are crucial for their development, both physically and mentally. At The Frame, we prioritize hands-on care and structured handling, ensuring that every foal learns the basics of human interaction from day one. Daily handling includes haltering, leading, grooming, and hoof picking—critical skills that set the foundation for a well-adjusted and manageable young horse.
As they grow, foals are carefully introduced to turnout in stages. They begin in a small paddock, gradually moving to a medium-sized pasture, and finally, by two months old, to a large field where they have more space to move, play, and develop naturally. Throughout this process, they continue to be handled daily, reinforcing their education and trust in humans.

From Foal to Weanling:

Yearlings to Pre-Backing:

During their yearling year, our young horses gain valuable exposure by attending their first breed shows, preparing them for future competition settings. They are also transitioned into separate filly and colt groups, allowing them to continue their social and physical development in an age-appropriate environment.
As two-year-olds, they take the next step in their education, attending additional breed shows and, depending on their maturity, beginning free jumping to introduce them to the concept of working over fences. By the end of their two-year-old year, each youngster undergoes a two-week pre-backing process, giving them a soft introduction to wearing tack and carrying a rider. They then take the winter off from arena work, allowing them to mentally and physically absorb their early training before returning in the spring of their three-year-old year to officially enter The Frame Development program.
