Can you say busy? Because the last month at The Frame has been a bit of a blur. Between preparing for our upcoming Backing Horses With The Frame Master Class, welcoming young horses in to begin their education, and sneaking away to a few horse shows, we’ve managed to fit quite a lot into the calendar.
We kicked things off at the MDHT Area II Championships. Martin and Lucia Hamner’s Supervillain finished fourth in the Novice Championships, and we were especially pleased with how he continues to develop. Martin also brought home top-ten finishes with sale horses Dream On in Open Novice and Motor Skills in Open Beginner Novice. Assistant Barn Manager and Rider Alese Rinker and her own Maestro FSCH finished in the top ten in Open Novice, while longtime student Silvio Pappalardo and the ever-recognizable Pure Biz took fifth in the Training Rider Championships.
From there, Martin and Erin Durst and Marsha Spencer’s Justified headed to the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event for the CCI3*-S, putting in a solid weekend at the three-star level.
The following weekend required a little more logistical creativity. We started at the Bred to Event Qualifier at Loch Moy Farm, where our homebreds gave us plenty to be proud of. Frame Josephine won the Yearling Class, with Frame Cartagena finishing third, and Frame Brulee took fourth in the Two-Year-Old Class. We also had the pleasure of handling Ashlee Fleming’s Keystone on Tap, who finished second in the Four-Year-Old Jump Chute.
Then it was straight on to the Waredaca Classic Three-Day and Horse Trials. Martin piloted Faith Genkinger’s Nuclear Code to second in Open Training and Lucia’s Supervillain to fifth in Open Training, a particularly exciting result for Supervillain’s first outing at that level. Alese and Maestro FSCH added another top-ten finish in Open Novice, and Silvio and Pure Biz took second in Training Rider.
Last weekend Martin and a trailer load of horses headed to the Virginia Horse Center Eventing. Erin and Marsha’s Justified and Martin ran the CCI3*-S, where they finished second in a competitive field. Martin and our own Frame Nantucket S won Open Modified, while Martin and Lucia’s Supervillain finished fourth in Open Training. Alese and Maestro FSCH rounded out the weekend with another top-ten finish in Open Novice.
There has certainly been plenty to celebrate, and we’re proud of the horses and riders who have been putting in the work across all of these outings.
We’d love to say we’re taking a moment to catch our breath, but the next few weeks bring dozens of young horses coming in to start their education. And honestly, that’s just how we like it.
Competing at a high level and watching horses enjoy their jobs is a pretty wonderful part of this sport. But the foundation of what we do at The Frame is developing young horses. We love being part of those first steps, helping them understand their new jobs, and giving them the tools to go on and have successful careers.
